Fish made from fabric printed on my last trip to India, as was the fabric it is swimming on. Maybe the first of many in different sizes?

Two pieces I did ‘before’ based on our trip to India. Inspired by the patterns we saw and using some decorated papers I did with Polly Woolstone at Oxford Summer School two years ago. Hand and machine stitching, also incorporating some pieces of sari.

Fragments of my workplace

A UFO, finally finished! ‘Fragments of my workplace’ is a collection of mementoes from my workplace, Our Lady’s Abingdon Senior School. Including lace fragments made by the Sisters, other ‘needlework accoutrements’ given to me by Sister Gabriel (a fabulously talented needlewoman), pressed daffodils to remind of the grounds in spring, a photo printed onto fabric. Hand and machine stitching.

Folk Art

This piece was loosely linked to Anne Kelly's Challenge, but I didn't do it exactly as she suggested! It is using lots of off cuts, but especially a piece from my bedroom curtains I made last year. I'm going to frame this piece and put it in our bedroom.

Patchwork

Struggling with any sort of artistic motivation during lockdown, but finding using all my scraps in a hexagon patchwork is very rewarding and enjoying the hand stitching.

Bag

Granny used to buy Woman's Weekly and this is the first piece I remember making. Not sure why I did Disney characters on the back. Does anyone else remember their first time with needle and thread?

Leaves

A Linladen project I have done during the lockdown. The threads are from flax fibres. It's my first attempt at anything like this.

Tulips

I was given a beautiful bunch of tulips which lasted and lasted. Eventually I had the chance to sit down and play with sari ribbons (a favourite) and do a bit of mindful (mindless?) stitching. I made four small stitched pieces - two 'postcards' to send, the old-fashioned way, and two for travelling books.

Canvas Bag

I inherited a number of embroidery transfers from my mother in law and wanted to use this one in its entirety - text and date (1936). To achieve this I glued the transfer to some muslin and then free machined over the design. I then faffed around for months trying to decide what to do with it and couldn’t commit to anything. Then during Coronavirus lockdown I spontaneously stitched it to a canvas bag as it really wasn’t a big deal in the great scheme of things.
